LOUD: The History of Reggaeton

LOUD offers a chronological history of reggaeton. The Spotify Original is rich in both sound and narrative, with the company’s licensing coming in handy to play the genre’s foundational hits. Each episode captures a time and a place in reggaeton’s development towards cultural dominance. The pilot, in which host Ivy Queen shares the invention of reggaeton in Panama, does an excellent job of tying the genre’s essential elements to its birthplace. The music — five minutes do not pass without a sample — propels the show forward.

The Flamethrowers

The latest from CBC examines the history of right wing radio, from Father Coughlin through the present. Hosted by Justin Ling, The Flamethrowers uses extensive archival audio to guide listeners through the decades of history that preceded Rush Limbaugh. Through one episode, the show’s theory seems to be that nearly 100 years of airwave-firestoking culminated in the election of Trump.

Business Breakdowns

The newest podcast from Colossus, best known for Patrick O'Shaughnessy's Invest Like the Best, spends each episode diving deep into a single business. Hosted by a revolving cast of successful investors and business operators, the podcast has so far analyzed tech firms like Shopify and Datadog as well as more traditional companies like Wyndham Hotels and Petco. Only 25 episodes in, Business Breakdowns has already proven itself as one of the most substantive listens in the business podcasting genre.
