3 Podcasts to Listen to in JUne 2026 | Podcast Review

June is Pride Month, as well as being a giddy season for sports fans as the NBA finals, Wimbledon, and the Fifa World Cup take over our attention. We've selected three podcast series that will reward close listening, perfect for languid summer days or long commutes.

Where the River Took Us

On July 4th, 2026, over a hundred people died when the Guadeloupe River consumed vast stretches of river bank, destroying homes and summer camps as the flood water swept across a previously idyllic area in Texas. "It was a special place," Texas Monthly senior editor Aaron Parsley explains at the start of Where the River Took Us, a new docu-podcast about the tragic flood. In this beautifully crafted, yet distressing series, Parsley tells a story that begins with a peaceful family holiday and ends with the death of his nephew.

Where the River Took Us is based on a magazine feature written days after the tragedy which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. If you've been following Texas Monthly's podcast slate, you can expect more of their signature narrative storytelling. If you're new, we recommend consuming this series on a road trip, or across a slow afternoon in the garden.

The Expert Witness

In the 37th series of CBC's Uncover comes The Expert Witness, an investigative series about a crime wave in Akron, Ohio in the early 2020s. The series opens with the tragic death of a young woman named Maya at a party, whose case is part of a series of homicides that are overwhelming authorities. Then, something called Cyber Check changes the whole picture. Suddenly, cases with no leads are finding suspects through this new technology. Criminal defence attorney Don Malarcik comes across Cyber Check when it implicates his young client in a homicide. Despite his research, he can't find any explanation of how the tool works. Don and his team begin digging into Cyber Check, uncovering unsettling questions about whether tech is delivering justice or providing convenient that lead to wrongful convictions.

Last Resort

If you're searching for a gripping, road trip-worth drama this summer, add Last Resort to your queue. The story, which was an Official Selection at Tribeca in 2025, follows a troubled influencer looking for rest and rejuvenation at a private wellness resort. However, her stay is disrupted when a mysterious sound causes the guests to turn violent.

The format of this series jumps around, but if you are open to a experimental format and intriguing plot line, then Last Resort will entertain in those empty stretches of time this summer.
